We zijn van plan om een diesel aan te schaffen. Gewoon een leuk dingetje waaraan nog het eea aan opgeknapt kan worden. Het budget is gezien het inkomen van een werkend student zo'n €.2000,-
Het internet staat er vol mee dus het lijkt me dat het moet lukken.

Wat adviseren jullie als W201 kenners? Wat is het grote verschil tussen de 2.0 en 2.5? Wat zijn de specifieke aandachtspunten? Of is wellicht LPG een betere keuze?

Afijn, de zoektocht is vandaag begonnen. Inmiddels een stuk of drie types op het oog en zaterdag gaan we alvast kijken naar een witte van de 2e serie. Een 2.5 uit '90 van de 1e eigenaar met 390.000 km op de teller.

Met een auto op LPG ben je minder kwijt aan brandstof (zeker als je in de buurt van België woont €0,28 p/ltr) , maar meer aan onderhoud.
Belasting scheelt niet zo veel tussen LPG en diesel.
Ik denk dat het meer een persoonlijke keuze is.
En je hebt gelijk dat er genoeg te koop staat en ik heb het idee dat de prijzen weer iets aan het stijgen zijn.

Heb destijds voor hetzelfde dilemma gestaan: LPG of diesel, toen voor diesel gekozen vanwege de grote betrouwbaarheid. Met een auto op LPG wil er nog wel eens wat zijn (tenzij de installatie heel goed is ingebouwd), met een diesel maar zelden. De techniek is gewoon simpeler. Maar daar zijn hele draadjes mee te vullen (en gevuld, zoek maar eens.
Als je in centrum Utrecht of Rotterdam moet zijn, heb je bij een diesel wel last van milieuzones, en in R'dam ook met een benzine/LPG zonder U9-katalysator.

2.0 D of 2.5 D: ik heb bewust voor de 2.5 gekozen: verbruik ligt nauwelijks hoger, mooiere loop, betere trekkracht, en handgeschakeld standaard 5 versnellingen (in mijn ogen erg belangrijk). Na 5 jaar en 150.000 km zou ik meteen weer een 2.5 D kopen.

Ik heb 100K km heel prettig in een LPG gereden (nu weer uitgebouwd vanwege de belastingregels) en voordeel is je rijd veel pittiger (vooral in een 2.3 ) maar een diesel is uiteindelijk wel wat betrouwbaarder en vergt iets minder onderhoud. De 2.5 is dan wel aan te raden.
Overigens zou ik wel wat verder kijken dan een bak die 390K heeft gelopen. Een 2.5 kan veel hebben maar je kunt er genoeg betaalbare vinden met heel wat lagere km standen.

Ik rijd nu een W124 230TE op LPG en heb de W123-ers ook op LPG cq benzine lopen en dat rijdt prima. Maar ze vergen allen naar mijn mening teveel onderhoud als het gaat om echt kilometers vreten. Daar komt bij dat een Mercedes diesel natuurlijk heerlijk ontspannen van en naar het werk tokkelt. Da's ook veel waard.

Ik begrijp overigens dat de 2.5 standaard met vijf-bak is geleverd? Dat maakt de keuze voor deze motor nog meer voor de hand liggend, gezien de reden van inzet (voornamelijk snelweg).

Qua bedrijfszekerheid, onderhoudskosten en wederverkoopbaarheid is een 2.5D de meest geschikte motorisering bij meer dan 10.000 kilometer per jaar. De standaard vijfbak (met een vrij lange vijfde versnelling) zorgt op de snelweg voor minder geluid en een lager verbruik.

Wel oppassen bij de 2.5 of deze het bonanza effect heeft (schuddend doortrekken bij laag toerental op een hogere versnelling) De facelift 190 heeft hier geen last van.

Alle schakel modellen hebben de kans op bonanza. Een echte oplossing is er daarvoor niet. Je kunt het wel verminderen.

Dat herken ik ook van de W124 diesels.

Maar hoe verminder je het effect?

Zorgen dat de motorsteunen en baksteun in goede staat zijn, alsmede de hardyschijven, tussenaslager en de rubbers van de cardanas, de ophanging van het differentieel en van de achterwielophanging.

Ik heb dat allemaal vervangen maar heb het nog steeds onverminderd.

Er mee leren omgaan helpt ook. Mijn 2.5 diesel had geen bonanza, mijn 2.0 diesel een heel klein beetje.
Hing er van af hoe je met de koppeling omging...

Om het bonanza effect te onderdrukken dient tussen de gashevel op de inspuitpomp en het inlaatspruitstuk een te zitten. en als ie er zit wellicht een frisse erop (149).

Dat is bij de diesel. Wat te doen bij een benzine ?

Bij de benzine uitvoering heb ik dat effect nog niet meegemaakt.

Er blijven er inmiddels nog twee over om te gaan bekijken. Een Franse import 2.5, helemaal origineel zo te zien en een grijze 2.5, echter met een hoog sjonnie gehalte.

We hebben er eentje gevonden in Rotjeknor. Nog origineel en onverprutst. Boekjes erbij en tokkelen zoals een dieseltje moet tokkelen. 190.000 op de teller en gezien de algehele staat van de auto lijkt dit te kloppen. De voorkeur ging uit naar een 2.5 maar een goede 2.0 voor een eerlijke prijs moet je dan naar mijn mening niet laten staan. Op de gebruikte markt heb je het nu eenmaal niet zomaar voor het kiezen. Dus.......

Wat moet er nog worden gedaan om hem weer helemaal compleet en bedrijfszeker te maken:

Nieuwe motor/bak/cardan olie + filters
Nieuw stadslichtje
Nieuw kachelknoplampje
Nieuw kofferbaklampje
Nieuw asbaklampje (aansteker lijkt nooit te zijn gebruikt)
Nieuw pookhoesje

Nogal te overzien dus.

En nu maar kilometers maken.

Gefeliciteerd met de aankoop, de auto ziet er netjes uit zo op de foto.
Waar komt de auto oorspronkelijk vandaan? Ik denk aan Frankrijk, gezien de trekhaak?
Je hebt de boekjes erbij, ook de onderhoudsboejes afgestempeld?
Een 190D van zo'n 25 jaar met 190 000 km op de teller, dat zijn ca 8000km per jaar, maakt mij wat sceptisch altijd.
Maar goed, onmogelijk is het niet.
Veel fijne kilometers toegewenst vanaf hier.

Die scepsis had ik ook. Maar inderdaad, onmogelijk is het niet. De auto komt van oorsprong uit Duitsland. En daar kom je wel vaker diesels met een lage stand tegen. Het interieur heeft geen rare slijtplekken, stoelen zijn niet doorgezakt en voelen stevig aan, het stuur is niet glad, de pedaalrubbers zien er nog origineel uit en zijn ingesleten op het niveau dat je met deze stand mag verwachten. Er lijkt ook in het interieur nog niet te zijn gesleuteld, alles past nog mooi en de bouten lijken nog onaangetast. De trekhaak is volgens mij nog niet zo oud want hij lijkt bijna ongebruikt. Ook onder de motorkap ziet het er stoffig uit maar is nergens iets opvallends of roestigs te vinden. In de scharnierbakken liggen nog oude vergeelde blaadjes en zie je wat spinnerag. Wellicht een garageslaper geweest.
De boekjes zijn tot 70.000 km afgestempeld en heeft daarna een kleine aanvulling met wat recente facturen.

Afijn, uiteindelijk blijft het spannend hoe hij het gaat doen maar het vertrouwen is er in ieder geval.
